News Media Consumption in Digital Age

Mobile now accounts for nearly 70% of digital media time [comScore]

Time spent with digital media continues to grow — but that growth is all mobile. ComScore released its “2017 Cross-Platform Future in Focus” which tracks consumer usage patterns across digital media channels and platforms.

The measurement firm found that mobile “now accounts for 69 percent of digital media time spent.”

By comparison, the desktop has fallen to less than one-third of total digital media time. Mobile apps are 60 percent of the total, with smartphone apps specifically commanding 51 percent of all digital media time.

Hack2skill has therefore decided to collaborate with leaders in digital news space in order to define problems and contribute to build solutions to improve Mobile Content Consumption. By joining hands with Arya College of Engineering & IT students from varied backgrounds with journalists from various news organizations and other invited participants in this Hackathon, we aim to generate new solutions for Mobile Content Consumption and better user experience.

Problem Statement

Problem-statement

To create new formats of text, photo and video news for consumption on smartphone. As India has crossed 90% consumption of news on mobile phone, the formats of news presentation on mobile phones needs to be more and more creative in order to service the user better. There are various layouts which are coming, for example - card layouts, data layouts, video feeds and others. News companies needs to identify newer formats in terms of UI and UX, to service the consumer in a better manner.

The teams are going to attempt unique news formats for text, video and photo to give publishers new prototypes to work upon.
